An important thing to remember is that RetailX doesn't know what product you're tracking, or anything about it.  All it does is scan the URL you provided for specific information.

This means that in order to have accurate data to inform your decisions, it's crucial to be completely sure that you are tracking an identical product.

Understanding Product Names

As you will see in image 1-4 below, all four of these identical products have different names depending on the supplier.

Identical:

  1. Canon 2000D 24MP DSLR IS Starter Bundle - Black
  2. Canon EOS 2000D Starter Kit
  3. Canon 2000D DSLR Camera Starter Bundle
  4. Canon EOS 2000D Digital SLR Camera Starter Kit (24MP)

The following product names are either for the same product, OR for a slightly different package / option etc.

Same or slightly different:

  1. Canon EOS 2000D Digital SLR Camera Double DC Kit - EF-S 18-55mm IS II and EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 II (24.1MP)
  2. Canon 2000D 24MP DSLR Twin DC Lens Bundle - Black
  3. Canon EOS 2000D DC Starter Kit
  4. Canon EOS 2000D DC Priceless Moments Kit
  5. Canon EOS 2000D with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III Lens
  6. Canon EOS DC Starter 2000

In order to ensure that you are tracking the correct data, it’s essential to ensure that the actual products you are tracking are identical to your own product, even if the supplier has named it something different on their website.

In the same way, the product URLs will often be based on the name that the competitor uses for that product, and as such may vary widely across competitors.

Key Takeaways

Names of products are very different from supplier to supplier, and often your competitors write the names in a way that makes them seem better than they are.

Make sure you choose the right product, otherwise there is a high probability that you will make price adjustments based on incorrect data.

If you make a mistake, or add an incorrect URL, you can always correct the URL in the “All Products” section.
